Throughout our five seasons, Tomorrow’s World Today has covered many different types of energy that are changing our world. In honor of the Season 6 premiere on September 9, the Tomorrow’s World Today team picked some of our favorite energy episodes.
1. Water From The Desert – Season 5, Episode 1
In early 2022, NGL Energy Partners and XRI Holdings partnered to advance a water recycling operation in the Permian Basin. One of the byproducts of hydraulic fracking is a great deal of produced water. This partnership will ensure that as much produced water as possible will not go to waste and is instead used in a closed-loop system that can help produce natural gas in a more environmentally-friendly way. The Tomorrow’s World Today team visited the Permian Basin to see how this process works.
2. Renewable Energy – Season 3, Episode 1
In this episode, we head to Southern California to explore all things renewable energy. From a dairy farm that turns methane from cow manure into renewable natural gas to hydrogen batteries that are powerful enough to run a city bus, we discover that renewable energy is an exciting and growing field.
3. The Past, Present, and Future of Nuclear Energy – Season 4, Episode 9
In the second episode of our four-part exploration of nuclear energy, we discover the history of nuclear energy, how nuclear energy is being used in today’s world, and what tomorrow’s nuclear reactors might look like. Our team even visited Arco, Idaho, the home of the world’s first nuclear power plant.
4. The Ground Up – Season 3, Episode 10
Biofuels are exactly what they sound like: liquid fuels created from renewable, biological compounds, and other natural products. The Tomorrow’s World Today team visited POET in South Dakota to find out how this clean-burning, renewable alternative to fossil fuel is created from corn and how it can help us reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
5. Nuclear Does What, Now? – Season 4, Episode 11
In the final part of our month-long exploration of nuclear energy, the Tomorrow’s World Today team explores how nuclear energy is helping with space exploration. Additionally, some of the industry’s top minds visited our studio in Pittsburgh for a roundtable discussion about what nuclear energy looks like in tomorrow’s world.
